Magistrate fiddled £22,000 in expenses

A magistrate who presided over benefit fraud cases is facing jail after cheating the taxpayer out of more than £22,000 in an expenses scam.

Carlton Janson, 69, fiddled his claims on mileage and allowances for loss of earnings while sitting in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

The businessman, once a former director of his local golf club, had frequently been chairman of the bench after being sworn in by a judge in 2000.
