Council officer falsely claimed travel expenses

A COUNCIL finance officer who "disgracefully" plundered taxpayers' money had dealt colleagues a "shocking slap in the face".

Simon Polglase changed his plea after more than two years of court proceedings on the morning his three-day trial was due to begin at Truro Crown Court.

The former deputy Falmouth Town Council clerk and finance officer from Goldsithney, near Penzance, admitted 11 counts of making fraudulent travel expense claims between February 2007 and 2010.
