Flintshire Council’s £3m consultants’ bill

FLINTSHIRE Council spent almost £3 million on consultants in just 12 months.

The latest figures from the council’s audit team have revealed that during the second half of 2010/11 £1,610,898 was spent on employing 146 consultants.

Earlier this year the council came under fire when it emerged £1.25 million was spent employing consultants during the first half of 2010/11, despite a total workforce of more than 8,000.

The council’s human resources department racked up the highest bill spending a total of £438,263 on 16 consultants in just six months, followed by the environment department which spent £366,403 employing 67 consultants.

My comment: If council staff need consultants to help them do their job then they should be sacked and replaced by those who can do their job without having to resort to expensive external consultants to do their job for them. It's not bloody rocket science.
