SCOTLAND’S regulatory body for teachers has come under fire for taking nearly four years to ban a member of school staff who it later admitted “simply could not teach”.
The accusation came in the wake of a decision last week by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) to strike off Janet Garner, a secondary school maths teacher.
Mrs Garner was removed from the teaching register after a hearing found her guilty of serious professional incompetence while working at Alva Academy and Alloa Academy in Clackmannanshire between 2003 and 2007 – when she was sacked by the council.
My comment: Another not fit for purpose watchdog to add to the long list of not fit for purpose watchdogs in the UK.
