South Tyneside Council: Money to chase monkey but not cockroaches

A tenant complained that the council had failed to take effective action to deal with a cockroach infestation in the block of flats where he lived.

The council’s records show that there had been reports of cockroaches from February 2005. The Environmental Health Service responded and provided ‘spot treatments’, but in September 2009 recommended the housing manager in an e-mail that the only effective treatment would be to the whole block. The e-mail says such advice had also been given previously.

The housing service commissioned the block treatment in February 2009. The council says the delay was due to it needing to identify funds.

My comment: Must have spent all their money chasing monkey!
