Herts County Council has been fined almost £2m for bed blocking

The authority came top of a national list of councils fined for so-called bed blocking because social service care was not available to patients at the time of discharge. Patients have been left waiting in hospital until these become available, preventing others being admitted.

Authorities in London and the surrounding area are fined £120 a day by the Department of Health for every patient who is ready to leave but cannot. HCC was fined a total of £1,962,205 over the last three years.

My comment: Another council wasting taxpayer's money.
