Glasgow City Council staff suspended or sacked in fraud probe

MORE than a dozen council staff have been suspended or sacked and a manager disciplined over a long-running scam to defraud the authority.

The workers, all employed at a Glasgow City Council roads department depot, were involved in a scheme which saw them clock-in late and leave early, as well as take authority vehicles home for personal use.

Some of those suspended were also accused of stealing diesel from the depot.

The scam emerged after a whistleblower contacted managers in the council’s land and environmental services (LES) department.

Some of those suspended were also accused of stealing diesel from the depot.

My comment: Another story about council officer corruption that probably wouldn't have seen the light of day south of the border. Councils down here tend to bully whistle-blowers out of their jobs and get them to sign a gagging/compromise agreement in order to hide the corruption.
