£1bn credit card spree by Ministry of Defence staff

Military officials and chiefs have splashed out almost £1billion on taxpayer-funded credit cards as thousands of soldiers face job cuts, it emerged yesterday.

Over the past four years, the MoD spent £986,041,110 on department charge cards, substantially more any other government department.

The revelations will fuel growing concerns over the management of the ministry, which is shedding 17,000 posts by 2015 in an attempt to save £4.7billion.

My comment: What is more interesting than the vast amount of money spent on credit cards is the fact that they don't want to publishing a breakdown of the total.
