Funerals in Bolton could be shown live on internet

Funeral services could be broadcast live to mourners on the internet.

It would allow relatives and friends of loved ones living overseas to watch services in real-time from their homes. Sick relatives unable to attend funerals would also benefit.

Under the town hall plans, cameras would be put in crematorium chapels to record services.  Footage would then be streamed live to either a portal off the council’s own website or to a website operated by a funeral web-casting company.

Web funerals would be offered to all council-controlled crematoriums. Charges would apply.

My comment: Ironic that some councils don't even stream public meetings yet this council wants to stream funerals. Why, could it be because one costs money whilst the other makes money.
