Welsh Councils spend thousands on ‘mystery shoppers’

Councils were criticised last night for spending more than £70,000 on secret shoppers when other bodies have managed to do it for nothing.

Eight councils were responsible for the spending over the past three years. Annual expenditure has increased from £18,922 in 2007-08 to £27,912 in 2009-10, according to figures released under the Freedom of Information Act.

Three of the offending councils were Anglesey, Carmarthenshire and Conwy.

My comment: If Gwent, Dyfed Powys, North Wales police and Rhondda Cynon Taf council use mystery shoppers without spending a penny why can't other public authorities?
