MP accused of lying over '£60,000 election expenses'

Aides of Chris Huhne have been taped apparently admitting they misled the authorities over his general election expenses.

Two former Lib Dem councillors have come forward with recorded evidence they say proves the Energy Secretary spent more than he was allowed to in the bitter fight to keep his ultra-marginal seat last May.

Mr Huhne’s election agent is heard telling colleagues the campaign cost £60,000 – £10,000 more than stated. ‘The elections have cost more than we declared,’ she said.

The campaign spending figures were officially submitted to the returning officer and signed by Mr Huhne

Making a false declaration of election expenses can lead to a year’s imprisonment.

My comment:  I wonder if he will ask his wife to to do the time :)
