Taxpayer funded trips abroad hijacked for personal use

Minister Baroness Warsi uses taxpayer-funded official visit to Pakistan to slip off for family wedding. She was on an official visit to Pakistan, supposedly to discuss immigration and see the devastation wrought by last year's floods.

But Cabinet minister Baroness Warsi astonished her hosts by slipping away in the middle of the day to attend a family wedding – with her security entourage in tow.

The Tory party chairman did not pay for the cost of this security when they made a 160-mile round trip to a luxury hotel to join her nephew and 350 guests for a lavish party.

My comment:  This begs the question - was the official visit timed to coincide with her personal obligation or was her personal obligation timed to coincide with her official visit? Either way whole think stinks because it appears to have been planned well in advance.

This won't be the first time a taxpayer funded trip has been invented or rearranged by the office of a public official to cover flight and hotel expenses for a private function abroad.
