Jason Butler was a detective constable with Avon and Somerset police at the time of the offences, when his Volkswagen Sharan people carrier was captured by two speed cameras breaking the limit.
Rather than own up, a court heard, he wrote back claiming a man from America owned and was driving the car.
Butler was caught on the A35 in Poole, Dorset, on May 24 2008, doing 40mph in a 30mph zone. On August 11 2009 he was caught speeding on the A374 in Torpoint, Cornwall. He resigned as a police officer on January 31 this year.
At Plymouth Crown Court yesterday Butler, who had investigated sex offences and child protection cases in Bristol, pleaded guilty to two counts of perverting the course of justice. He was warned a jail sentence was being considered.
My comment: What a silly thing to do, ruin your life and bring the force into disrepute for a couple of speeding tickets.
