POLICE officers faked mental illnesses to retire early and claim millions of pounds in gold-plated pensions, a leading psychiatrist has claimed. Dr Derek Summerfield, who worked for the Met Police from 2001 to 2004, said he witnessed a “culture of entitlement”.
Up to 180 officers a month reported having stress‑related problems, he said. In 2003, picking up a pension on grounds of mental health made up 46 per cent of all ill health retirements.
My comment: I wonder why it took him 7 years to blow the whistle?
