Alexandra Palace councillor Charles Adje guilty of misconduct

FORMER council leader Charles Adje has been suspended after being found guilty of misconduct over the attempted lease of Alexandra Palace.

At a specially convened two-day standards hearing into Councillor Adje's role in the saga at Wood Green Civic Centre, a five-member panel decided he had brought the council into disrepute and suspended him for four months.

Council leader Claire Kober said: “Charles Adje has been suspended from the Haringey Labour Group.

An independent report into the dispute estimated that losses to the charitable trust that runs the palace were in the region of £1.5 million.

My comment: Councillors should be held personally liable if they are found guilty of misconduct in office. Suspension is not enough of a deterrent to stop this sort of behaviour.

  1. I think the law exists to make them personally liable if malice is involved but it would require the Council to take action. I assume the Council could sue the offender for misfeasance in public office and seek both general and exemplary damages. But would a Council ever do that to one of its own?
