How blundering MoD paid £22 each for 65p lightbulbs

Blundering Ministry of Defence chiefs admitted yesterday that they paid £22 each for light bulbs that could have been bought for just 65p.

And the hard-up department forked out £103 each for screws that can be ordered online for £2.61.

Further embarrassment was heaped on the MoD when, after it originally suggested that the bulb was so expensive because it was a piece of specialist equipment, officials later accepted that it was actually an ordinary bulb that would normally cost a few pence.

My comment: Where were the watchdogs to stop this happening?
